Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., which employs over 3,500 people and operates three tire manufacturing facilities in Nova Scotia, is seeking a Civil Engineering Project Manager to join its engineering team.

The Civil Engineering Project Manager’s main focus will be leading all aspects of large-scale civil engineering projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This will include all project milestones from identifying the business need, through to design, assembly and implementation. As a Civil Engineering Project Manager and leader, you will be responsible for ensuring appropriate project team structure, resource efficiency and financial accountability. This position reports to a senior manager in our Greenville, South Carolina headquarters but will be located at one of our Nova Scotia locations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Developing the framework for each project or program, ensuring alignment with the goals set by the project sponsor or steering committee, and allocating resources;
  • Leading the project team and applying a clear and consistent project approach that adheres to the relevant standards. This includes crafting the project charter, following check lists, validating achievements, establishing governance, managing budget, etc.;
  • Delivering the project outcomes that meet the functional specification requirements, while maintaining high quality, cost efficiency, timely delivery and risk mitigation;
  • Implementing and following a formal change management program to handle any changes in scope, schedule, budget, or resources; and
  • Coordinating the civil engineering aspects of new construction and renovation projects.
    • Ensuring compliance with building codes and requirements and monitoring them during design and construction phases;
    • Working with designers and construction contractors to apply appropriate construction methodology and complete projects successfully;
    • Incorporating carbon neutrality and sustainable building materials and methods into the design and construction processes.  

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent is preferred;
  • Professional Engineer with Engineers Nova Scotia, or eligibility to transfer or obtain PEng is preferred;
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct work experience in project management as a Project Manager or Project Leader, ideally in manufacturing or a similar industrial setting.
  • Experience handling a project portfolio between $10-20 million CDN per annum.
  • PMI certification is considered an asset, but not required; and
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards and regulations.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to meet project achievements based on a specific timeline for multiple projects simultaneously. They must also possess the ability to communicate and connect with all levels of the organization from shop floor operations personnel to senior plant management. Proven leadership experience is also an asset.
