Overview

Michelin is hiring! We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tire Test Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for industrializing and qualifying test methods on various measurement systems, ensuring the quality of test results, and maintaining the measurement system portfolio. This role involves collaboration with multiple departments to achieve project goals and improve customer engagement.

The opportunity

This position is located in Michelin's Laurens Proving Grounds (LPG) near Mountville, South Carolina. The LPG team consists of a compact team of around 40 full-time employees, divided among Site Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Engineering, Objective and Subjective drivers, Test support, and security staff. The site’s structure enables the team to gain experience in various areas of the company. It features 12 diverse test tracks with multiple surfaces suited for different testing methods, spread over more than 3300 acres.

What you will do

Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other engineers as a team to accomplish projects and serve as the project lead when necessary.

Customer Support: Analyze customer requirements with Performance Engineers to support method/PME creation or evolution and study the impact of customer complaints and non-conformities to implement corrective actions.

Technical Expertise: Understand test method equipment specifications, functionality, procedures, and be able to perform tests and solve problems with measurement equipment.

Safety and Compliance: Respond immediately to environmental or safety violations, enhance environmental risk control, and improve general safety and ergonomics.

Investment Proposals: Propose capital investments to test methods (PMEs) and lead projects for site improvements.

Tire Components: Understand tire mechanics related to assigned test methods and associated tire performances, including the relationship between test parameters and results.

Test Equipment Management: Ensure the conformity of test equipment with the requirements of the tire test protocols (Process of Measure and Essay) (PME) catalog and manage associated investments to improve the responsible test methods.

Quality Assurance: Guarantee the quality of test results for all assigned test methods (PME) and establish a robust measurement system portfolio.

Project Management: Complete assigned capital projects for process and method improvement while contributing to the success of Michelin Manufacturing Way at LPG.

Technical Responsibility: Assume technical responsibility for assigned Test Methods (PMEs), including noise (passby, interior), noise Michelin Engineering Services (MES), bead unseat, and instant air loss. Handle necessary equipment and test track surfaces, VBOX, and continuous improvement of measurement systems.

Method Development: Industrialize and qualify test methods on given measurement systems, including facilitating, designing and analyzing Measurement System Analyses (MSAs).

Statistical Methods: Use standard statistical methods applications.

Event Participation: Participate in customer events and demos as needed.

Regulatory Testing: Ensure all activities performed for regulatory testing comply with ISO 17025 Laboratory Management Standard.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in test engineering, preferably in the tire/automobile industry.
  • Strong understanding of measurement systems and test methods.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 Laboratory Management Standard is a plus.
