Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., which operates three tire manufacturing facilities in Nova Scotia, is seeking an technical and leadership oriented Electrical Engineer to join its engineering team in Waterville, Nova Scotia.

The Electrical Engineer will support the manufacturing process and equipment by designing, specifying, purchasing and constructing electrical automation systems and components. This position will include aspects of project management, technical specification, design, analysis, installation management, equipment start-up and manufacturing. Under the mentorship of experienced, multi-disciplinary team of professionals, the successful candidate will develop into a technical subject matter expert with responsibility for project leadership.
 

What you will do:

  • provide detailed electrical design and automation programming for assigned projects and plant technical assistance;
  • provide estimates and technical schedules for all phases of process equipment addition, replacement or upgrade;
  • provide backup support and training to plant maintenance teams on newly implemented automation systems;
  • collaborate with internal company support groups to accomplish objectives, and provide contract engineering management and direction when needed; and,
  • participate in assigned major capital projects and/or modifications from start to finish, including equipment reception, commissioning, and acceptance.
     

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field;
  • minimum of 1-2 years of engineering experience;
  • strong aptitude towards hands-on skill development;
  • desire to work towards technical expertise in process equipment;
  • demonstrated leadership, coaching and facilitation through academic, and/or extra-curricular activities.
     

The following assets are preferred, but not required:

  • experience with electrical design standards and familiarity with controls systems designs using standard CAD design tools;
  • experience in project management and team leadership;
  • exposure to PLC programming standards and programming software, including GRAFCET, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text (Rockwell and Siemens);
  • exposure to Variable Frequency drives and Motion Control technologies (Rockwell, Siemens and Control Techniques);
  • exposure to HMI configuration, programming and communication (Rockwell);
  • experience with control systems network interfaces and various protocols for communications between devices including computer system databases;
  • exposure to vision system configuration (specific experience with Cognex, Keyence, Adept, Bytewise, Gocator is an asset); and,
  • robotic exposure, configuration or knowledge (Fanuc, ABB).
