The opportunity

As an Operations / Production Manager, you will guarantee and drive the collective performance to achieve important goals in safety, machine availability, quality, delivery and cost established with the plant management team. You will manage and mentor salaried personnel and have indirect wage reports of up to 250 that have responsibility for meeting safety, quality and delivery targets within the workshop.

Furthermore, the position will be part of an accelerated development program with a goal of positioning the new leader to rapidly gain experience and grow quickly within the organization. We are expecting this new, passionate leader to gain experience and promote into higher level operations roles within the company.  Therefore, the successful candidate to be willing to relocate at any time to most of our Canadian or US locations.  The opportunity also exists to take part in a short-term global rotation assignment for development within Group Michelin.

What you will do:

  • manage a team of up to 250 indirect reports including salaried support staff in a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week manufacturing facility;
  • monitor and manage daily performance, and set mid/long term strategic direction in line with company objectives;
  • establish and lead the cost control budget;
  • mentor a team and promote employee development;
  • demonstrate passion for continuous improvement in safety, production, compliance, maintenance, and employee development/mentorship; and,
  • provide team communication on company, plant, and department business plan objectives and performance.

What you will bring:

  • a bachelor of engineering or equivalent is required, an MBA is considered a strong asset;
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive management responsibility in a manufacturing environment;
  • demonstrated leadership presence;
  • the ability to learn quickly;
  • outstanding judgment and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic setting;
  • analytical problem-solving skills with an outstanding attention to detail;
  • strategic vision with the ability to implement;
  • strong leadership skills with the ability to empower and influence others positively;
  • curiosity and willingness to challenge self and others to higher levels of performance;
  • great organizational change skills;
  • geographic mobility to most Michelin sites within Nova Scotia and the US (South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa and Indiana); and,
  • willingness to relocate internationally for a potential short-term assignment.
