Inspector, The Michelin Guide

Mission:

To visit and validate restaurants for the Guide MICHELIN selection.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To perform inspection meals, lunch/dinner daily across assigned markets

  • To work on reports including photos of the establishment and food for the visit in restaurants per assigned

  • To provide adequate elements to editorial team for text writing

  • To Coordinate with editorial team to proof-read and fact-check texts and all other Michelin Guide content

  • To maintain 100% anonymity both individually and of team members and cope with all sensitive and confidential information

  • To organize up to three weeks of monthly travel (including international) to assigned markets including booking plane/train tickets, hotels, car rentals and schedule all meal reservations, coordinating with other inspectors when necessary

  • To monitor a variety of media outlets (national/local news, blogs, social media, etc.) for restaurant openings, closings, chef movement and all other relevant information and maintain an up-to-date list of restaurant openings, organized by priority, within assigned markets

  • To manage all business expenses related to meal and travel expenditures responsibly

Key Expected Achievements:

  • To carefully plan annual program of work

  • To thoroughly research specific geographical areas/markets per assigned

  • To consolidate all relevant information in good prioritization

  • To carry out incognito inspections of restaurants with detailed reports and analysis

Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in culinary, food studies, hotel management or equivalent degree

  • Minimum 5 years of hospitality, F&B industry working experience

  • With extensive knowledge in food and beverage across different ingredients, culinary techniques, cuisines and culinary fundamentals

  • Attention to detail, strong skills of observation, memory for cuisine

  • Natural sensory talent for tasting, analyzing food

  • This position requires flexible travel schedule along with regular evening work hours

  • Integrity, discretion, and respect for requirement of anonymity

  • Flexibility, ability to adjust to change easily and adapt to changing work environment; ability to problem solve effectively in unexpected circumstances; ability to work independently

  • Excellent writing skills, solid organizational skills

  • Good interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively and remotely; able to communicate effectively and express ideas with clarity

  • Excellent research skills; extensive familiarity with restaurant and food-related media

  • Proficient in English with good communication skills (additional language skills is appreciated)

  • Enjoy eating out

  • High mobility (Frequent Travel)
