Frequently Asked Questions
How much does registration cost?
Nothing! Michelin is supportive of the efforts you put in and wants to give you the opportunity to prepare for competition and network with Michelin engineers.
Will this shootout event still run in the rain?
Yes, we are running the event rain or shine! Bring your wet tires and raincoats if it rains.
How many team members can we bring? Can the whole team come?
We are limiting the number of team members to 20 people per university.
How many cars may we compete with?
Each university may bring 2 cars to the shootout competition. EV and IC cars will compete directly.
Do we need to provide proof of liability insurance?
No. For the annual Formula SAE Shootout, Michelin is providing an insurance policy for the whole event.
How big is the track?
Track 8 is a very flat asphalt surface that is abrasive. The asphalt vehicle dynamics pad is 400 x 1400 ft. The endurance and autocross courses will take up about 2/3 of this space.
What can we expect for the track layout?
The autocross and endurance course will be designed by Michelin’s subjective test drivers. We plan to improve 2023’s simple layout and make something longer, tighter, and much more representative of the Formula SAE competition courses. We intend to chalk the track for improved visibility.
Will there be any fire and rescue onsite?
Michelin LPG’s well-trained emergency response team will be on track all day. The Michelin truck is equipped with a fire extinguishing foam tank. Fire extinguishers and high-visibility vests will be required for each cone-chasing/timing station.
Can we stay at the track overnight?
Event attendees may not stay onsite overnight. Locked trailers may stay onsite. Wood blocks must be placed under anything metal that touches the track. Avoid leaving out any items that attract wildlife or may be affected by weather.
